Malta To Ban HHC Gummy Bears, Lollipops, Brownies And Other Products

Malta will impose a sweeping market ban on all HHC products, including gummy bears, brownies, lollipops, and other items.

In an new Lovin Malta interview, Equality Parliamentary Secretary Rebecca Buttigieg said she is concerned that these products – which can currently be bought off the counter at several shots and even via food delivery platforms – are extremely accessible to children.

“They are marketed in very colourful packaging and come as gummy bears or lollipops,” she said.

Buttigieg said the Authority for the Responsible Use of Cannabis set up a committee, which also included the police, Customs, the Superintendence of Public Health, and some academics, to study the situation.

After analysing the local market and the EU Drug Agency’s guidelines, they recommended a total ban on the importation and sale of all HHC products.

Buttigieg said a political agreement has also been reached, which means such products will soon be banned in Malta.
