A man who was jailed for five years and eight months for selling cocaine has appeared in court again for driving while under the influence of the drug. In May this year, Hassan Somobana was stopped by Leicestershire Police in the Anstey Lane area of Leicester and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of cocaine. A blood sample was taken and he was released while tests were carried out.
But four months later, he was arrested again for dealing cocaine, and was given a jail term in September this year. On Monday (November 25), Somobana, 42, appeared at Leicester Magistrates’ Court via videolink from HMP Morton Hall in Lincolnshire for the earlier driving offence to be dealt with.
He pleaded guilty to drug-driving, as well as driving without insurance and driving with an expired provisional licence. He is not due to be released from prison for at least two years, which limited the sentencing options for the magistrates.
