CCB staff would like to offer a friendly reminder regarding use of the term “organic” with cannabis or cannabis products.

Because cannabis remains federally illegal, it cannot be certified organic. Additionally, the USDA organic product labeling guidance states that products can’t use the “organic” label without being certified.

Even if the word “organic” is used in the name of a cannabis establishment, it could be a violation of federal law.

There are limited exceptions, though. For example, if your business produces edibles with a certified organic ingredient, you may list that ingredient as certified organic, but only on the ingredients list.

A notice about thefts

CCB staff have received multiple reported thefts impacting different cannabis license types. While we are disheartened to hear of any losses from cannabis establishments, our staff would like to offer a few reminders:

• Businesses should report thefts of cannabis or cannabis products to their compliance agent immediately after discovering it.
• Any loss of cannabis or cannabis product should be entered into the Inventory Tracking System.
• Make sure your security measures, such as surveillance cameras or alarm systems, are functioning properly.
