Australia: Café owner charged after Perth family consumed brownie allegedly laced with marijuana

The owner of a café where a Perth family become ill after eating a chocolate brownie allegedly laced with marijuana is set to face court after being charged over the incident.

Nathan Sharp, who trades as Bada Bing Café in Woodlands, Western Australia, has been charged with two offences under the Food Act 2008 of selling “unsuitable” food on March 2 and 3 this year.
Mr Sharp was charged following an investigation by the City of Stirling’s environmental health team.
“Analysis of one brownie confirmed the presence of THC and other cannabinoids. As this matter is not yet before the courts, the City is unable to go into further detail,” the council said in a statement.
“However, we can assure our residents and the community that we have done a thorough investigation. This appears to be an isolated incident and the City believes it has addressed any potential risk to the community.”
The Bada Bing Café was investigated after customers, known only as Michael and Sharon, complained members of their family became ill after consuming the brownie.
The couple toldABC radioin Perth their five-year-old daughter, Emily, started seeing things that weren’t there and her heart started racing.
