Australia: Medical Marijuana Suppliers Face Court

Australia’s Herald Sun reports…

A HUSBAND and wife who allegedly supply medicinal cannabis to Victoria’s chronically ill have been committed to stand trial in the County Court.

Matthew and Elizabeth Pallett both pleaded not guilty to possessing, cultivating and trafficking cannabis at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court this morning.

A small army of supporters wearing green ribbons with a red cross on them in support of medicinal cannabis attended the hour-long hearing.

Pancreatic cancer sufferer Randolph Pullen said he owed his longevity to the drug.

“If I stop now, I’m told I won’t make July,” he said.

Mr Pallett, 54, said laws criminalising the supply of medicinal cannabis needed to be put on trial.

“Keeping medicine from sick people is wrong. Keeping from people that are dying, that’s murder,” Mr Pallett told media outside court.

The Victorian Government plans to introduce legislation to permit children to be treated with medicinal cannabis as early as 2017.

Court documents claim their products include oils, balms, tinctures and edible products such as butter.

The Palletts will front a directions hearing tomorrow.
