Extract:  “It all about money – the city’s in very dire financial straights, ” said Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey.

After voting the idea down last year, Oroville City Council is once again talking about commercial marijuana sales.

“This time there’s more momentum … a lot of jobs would be created,” said Mike Howard, a local proponent and former city council member.

Howard says he’s been in touch with some big dispensary companies who want to invest in the community.

And the new state law that allows commercial use and sale?

“That opens up opportunity and many cities have been looking into that, and adopted that … to not only charge sales tax, but also an excise tax,” said Howard.

Recreational marijuana use, growth and sales is now legal in California and now the City of Taft is going to take another look at the issue and how its going to deal with it.

The city has now power to regulate possession small amounts of the drugs or use in private by adults, but The Taft City Council is going to take another look at the effects of legalization of the commercial growing and sales of cannabis and related products Tuesday night.
Two months ago, the City Council voted to ban all commercial cannabis growth and sales in the city with a provision to revisit the issue after Proposition 64, which legalized recreational use in the state, went into effect on Jan. 1.

Two local men, Travis Neumann and Ryan Coulter, have expressed an interest in building a commercial cannabis facility in taft.

TRUCKEE

Title: Truckee town council votes to shorten cannabis prohibition

Author: Sierra Sun

Date: 13 January 2018

URL:

Extract: After heavy public comment at a meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 9, the Town of Truckee Council went against a staff recommendation and opted for a shorter moratorium on commercial cannabis activity within city limits.

“Just to be clear, I’ll vote no if it’s 10 and a half months,” said council member Patrick Flora during deliberation. “We should get this done sooner, rather than later.”

The temporary ban on commercial cannabis business establishment or expansion expires on July 2, but the town council has the power to extend it before that 6-month due date. The council also has the authority to come to a decision on an ordinance before July, which could end the moratorium.
