Bill C-46 Adopted and Referred to Committee

Bill C-46,  An Act to amend the Criminal Code (offences relating to conveyances) and to make consequential amendments to other Acts was adopted by the Canadian House of Commons yesterday after the Bill’s second reading and has been referred to the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights.

The Bill, which is a companion to Bill C-45 (the Cannabis Act), deals with amending existing provisions of the Criminal Code that deal with offences and procedures relating to drug-impaired driving.

For more information about Bill C-46, you can refer to the full text of the debate that took place yesterday during its second reading, which is located here (C-46 Debate).  Discussion of the Bill is located at pages 21 – 33 and also at pages 42 – 72.

B.C. Greens and NDP Join Forces Will Help With Passing Cannabis Bill

B.C. Greens and NDP Join Forces

As of yesterday afternoon, the uncertainty has been settled with respect to the leadership of the B.C. government.   The Green Party officially announced that it would support an NDP government, giving the NDP-Greens alliance a single-seat advantage over the BC Liberals.

The details of the NDP-Greens agreement will be released today after the ratification process at the BC caucus. While neither party leader has made cannabis policy a focus of their campaign, both the NDP and Greens have commented on B.C.’s preparedness for the recreational market. We know that both the NDP and Greens have been anticipating federal legalization of the recreational cannabis market, both in their own ways.
