Cannabis In The Condiment

Usually we relegate these stories to our Wake & Bake site but as it is Friday we couldn’t resist this story.

The Growth Op  reports that border officers at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge, which connects Pharr, Tex. and Reynosa, Mexico, grew suspicious on July 17 after seeing the tractor-trailer manifested as a commercial ketchup shipment.

The report goes on to reveal…….The officers opted to use all available resources, including a K-9 team, and soon found more than ketchup, reports U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The search revealed 7,645 pounds of alleged marijuana, contained within 968 packages, inside the buckets of ketchup. The weed is thought to have a street value of about US$1.5 million.

Both the cannabis and the tractor-trailer were seized. The case has been passed on to Homeland Security Investigations.

“While drug smuggling organizations try to be creative in finding ways to conceal their illicit merchandise, CBP officers continue to effectively apply inspection skills and technology to prevent narcotics from crossing our borders,” says Carlos Rodriguez, port director for the Port of Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas.
