Cannabis Policy Advisor Shoots To Third Place In California Governor Recall Election Poll

Cannabis policy advisor Jackie McGowan is making a name for herself in California’s hotly contested election to recall Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom, shooting to the third-place ranking out of dozens of contestants in a statewide poll released last week.

The results show that McGowan had the support of 5% of the poll’s respondents, trailing Republican conservative radio talk show host Larry Elder (27%) and fellow Democrat Kevin Paffrath (6%).

But the survey also shows McGowan, who is running on a campaign based in part on fixing California’s ailing legal cannabis industry, is ahead of Republicans with stronger name recognition, including State Assemblymember Kevin Kiley (4%) and former San Diego mayor Kevin Faulconer (3%).

“As a top-three candidate who emerged from a field of 46, I look forward to debating my opponents,” McGowan said in a press release from the campaign. “When you look at Larry Elder’s and Kevin Paffrath’s position on responding to Covid-19 and the Recall, they are two peas in a pod and wrong for California.”
