Covid Cancellations: Sensibly More Cannabis Events Put On Permanent Hold

Cannabis Life Network reports

As a measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19, provincial health officials have banned all gatherings and events of 250 people or more. Shortly afterwards, a statement released by 420 Vancouver organizers announced that the 2020 celebration would not take place this year. Following that lead, on Vancouver Island, the 420 festivities in Victoria have also now been officially cancelled.

Traditionally, the biggest 420 celebrations on the Island took place at Centennial Square. Last year, Victoria kicked it up a notch when they relocated to the front lawn of the B.C. Legislature Building and set up a DJ.

The first 420 to take place in Victoria was an unplanned accident, however, police and city officials held Ted Smith, the founder of the Victoria Cannabis Buyers Club, accountable. At a time when dispensaries did not even seem like a possibility, the Victoria Cannabis Buyers Club was in full operation. In light of that, everything to do with cannabis in Victoria generally gets associated with him and the club. Embracing their part in protesting with a pot party, the planning and organization of 420 Victoria fell to Ted Smith, Hempology 101, and the Victoria Cannabis Buyers Club. This year will be different.

Ted Smith confirmed that there will be no public 420 gatherings this year at the Parliament Buildings and/or Centennial Square. When asked about it, Ted Smith said, “We are cancelling it this year because we all are dealing with an unfolding crisis, this [virus]. The Victoria Cannabis Buyers Club is my primary focus, especially now with this health scare.”

420 Victoria 2020 Officially Cancelled

and in Berlin

The Berlin edition of the International Cannabis Business Conference is the latest event to the fallen victim to the increasing worldwide spread of COVID-19, making the decision to postpone and reschedule the conference to later in the summer.

The conference, which was set to take place next month, April 1-3, now moves to late July.

“After much thought and deliberation, due to the recent coronavirus outbreak in Europe, we have made the decision to reschedule the ICBC Berlin for July 29-31st. We are very sorry for this inconvenience; however, for reasons of health and safety, as well as to avoid a last-minute event cancellation by the German authorities, we deemed it prudent to make the decision now to reschedule for July. The good news is that Berlin in the summer is amazing and the event will be bigger than ever.”

“Thank you for your understanding in this extenuating circumstance.”
