Day 2: Virtual Cannabis Research Conference

Community College of Denver presented data from their new Associates degree in Cannabis Business and Bachelor’s degree in Cannabis Applied Science.

The degree program launched in Fall 2021 with a seminar class called Cannabis Fundamentals.

The presenter, a Chemistry Professor who assisted in developing the programs, shared data around the diverse student body at CCD which is a Hispanic Serving Institution. 63% of the students qualify for the Pell grant which is a Federal grant for students with exceptional high financial need.

Development of these degrees was motivated by the goal of providing cannabis related education to marginalized student populations. Before even writing curriculum CCD created an Advisory Council in 2019 to hear from the industry in CO and the US regarding what knowledge and skills future employees and entrepreneurs needed.

This is a common practice at many community colleges. The business program has grown slowly and CCD adds new cannabis related courses each semester.

For the Applied Science bachelors CCD partnered with Green flower to provide some courses. Green flower is a real source of cannabis training nationwide.
