Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan lays out process for obtaining recreational marijuana licenses

Mayor Mike Duggan on Wednesday laid out the process for adult residents of Detroit to get a recreational-use marijuana license, a much-anticipated development in the city, which so far has allowed only medical marijuana business within city limits.

“The city of Detroit over the years hasn’t done enough to create business opportunities for Detroiters,” Duggan said at a news conference. “We are going to do everything we can to create every opportunity we can for Detroiters to start these businesses.”

A legacy program is expected to help Detroiters who have been longtime residents of the city take advantage of the new opportunities. Legacy applications will receive at least 50% of all newly created recreational marijuana business licenses issued for retailers, growers, processors, microbusinesses and marijuana event organizers.
