Dispensary Owner Garden Remedies Has Website Taken Down By WordPress Now Looking For New Host

An interesting snippet from WeedWeek’s Massachusetts correspondent .

As they say.. A word of warning to the wise

Garden Remedies, which runs dispensaries in Newton, Melrose, and Marlborough, said this week that its new website was unexpectedly taken offline by WordPress parent company Automaticc. The web hosting firm cited federal law, saying in an email to Garden Remedies that although hemp was legalized in 2018, “the production and sale of hemp remains highly regulated… At this time, we do not permit the sale of marijuana, hemp, or cannabis-derived products (including CBD oil — whether over or under 0.3% THC) on WordPress.com sites.” It seems Garden Remedies has since been able to republish its previous website, including online ordering. The company said the takedown was “more annoyance than injustice” and that it would soon launch its new site on a different web hosting platform. The incident merits inclusion on our running list of pro tips: Don’t put your cannabis content on WordPress, folks.

Meanwhile, Garden Remedies is currently campaigning to remove local restrictions that require its Newton location to operate during limited hours and on an appointment-only basis.
