A Florida man was arrested and charged with lewd and lascivious behavior after police found him naked in an elementary school classroom, allegedly with an array of sex toys and marijuana.
According to the arrest affidavit obtained by Law&Crime, police responded to calls made on Nov. 28 concerning a white male who was “naked in one of the classrooms” at Windmill Point Elementary School in Port St. Lucie, Florida. When officers arrived at the scene, the man reportedly “quickly clothed himself” and started to run away. Police caught up to him, but the man — eventually identified as Joe Franklin Urias, 34 — put up a fight that resulted in one officer getting punched in the face. After gaining control of Urias, backup arrived and the suspect was taken into custody.
Police soon learned that Urias works as a teacher at another school in the area, Somerset College Preparatory Academy.
Urias reportedly told police that he was currently homeless and broke into the school through an unlocked window. Officers found some of his personal items in the classroom where he was initially spotted — among them were several “self-pleasuring devices (sex toys)” and women’s underwear. Urias was also found carrying “a leafy green substance in a clear, plastic container” that police identified as marijuana.
Urias was charged with burglary, possession of marijuana (less than 20 grams), and battery on an officer. He was also charged with lewd lascivious behavior since, as the affidavit stated, he was “naked and running around the school without clothes on” and found with sex toys.
After Urias’ Thanksgiving night arrest, Somerset College Preparatory Academy posted a statement on Facebook acknowledging “allegations, unrelated to our school, against an individual formerly employed at our school.”
“We want to emphasize that the safety and well-being of our students and community are our top priority,” the school’s statement continued. “As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe environment, all prospective employees at our school undergo thorough background checks and screening conducted by the local school district. We do not hire anyone without this clearance.”
