False Alarm – That Circle K Deal In Glorida Is Not Happening According To Florida’s Health Department

They should know !

The Washington Examiner reports

Florida is pumping the brakes on plans to allow consumers to purchase marijuana at select gas stations.

The state’s Health Department told the Washington Examiner that Florida has not approved the deal between Circle K and Green Thumb Industries. The cannabis company announced on Wednesday that it will sell medical marijuana products via space rented out from Circle K stores in Florida, according to a press release.

“This project has not been approved by the State,” the department said. “Florida has never approved a Medical Marijuana Treatment Center to operate out of a gas station.”

Under the partnership between Circle K and Green Thumb Industries, the cannabis company would sell its products in outlets branded as “RISE Express,” which would be set up from space leased out from 10 Circle K locations and would operate adjacent to the gas stations. The RISE Express outlets will also have independent entrances and will not have walk-through access to the Circle K store they will be adjacent to, a Green Thumb Industries spokesperson told the Washington Examiner.

“As with all RISE dispensary locations in Florida, the opening of RISE Express stores remains subject to regulatory approval, and sales will be exclusively to Florida patients with a valid medical marijuana identification card,” the spokesperson said.

Roughly 700,000 people in Florida carry a medical marijuana identification card, according to the state’s Health Department. The state of Florida only allows cannabis to be purchased for medical reasons.
