A former academic dean in Boston Public Schools was sentenced to 18 years in prison on May 4, after the man recruited students to the Latin Kings and attempted to murder a student he’d recruited who was selling marijuana in the high school, the Office of U.S. Attorney Rachael Rollins said.
Shaun Harrison, 63, also known as “Rev” or “King Rev” as a gang member of the Massachusetts Almighty Latin King and Queen Nation, was sentenced on Thursday to 218 months in prison after he pleaded guilty in August 2022 to charges of conspiracy to conduct enterprise affairs through a pattern of racketeering activity, Rollins’ office said.
Harrison had been hired in 2015 as an academic dean at The English High School in Boston, the office stated. His role was to act as a mediator between teachers and students, contact families when students were struggling, work with students who were at-risk and to run an after-school anger management program for 10 boys, Rollins’ office said.
While working at the high school, Harrison would specifically target at-risk students into the Latin Kings and provide the children with marijuana and other drugs to sell at the high school of which he would collect the proceeds, Rollins’ office said.
“Harrison was the architect of ruin for an entire generation of promising young lives – exclusively targeting and grooming vulnerable, at-risk youth. The very thing he was hired to work against,” Rollins said.
