A Note from Gaynell Rogers
Hello Friends and Colleagues,
As most of you know, this July will mark my ninth year working in the cannabis industry. I have seen an amazing acceleration of growth and change, and do believe we will continue on this wild ride for years to come.
I have been on many boards throughout the years and know the commitment, talent, management skills and connectivity required to make organizations and industries thrive. In an unusual move for me, I am weighing in on a special candidate for NCIA Board of Directors (National Cannabis Industry Association) – Bob Hoban of the Hoban Law Group.
“Thought leader,” “best in class,” and “top of his field” are claims we so often hear; these terms truly apply to Bob who has a long list of significant accomplishments and a vast skill set as an expert in the cannabis, hemp, & CBD legal spaces. As a professor at the University of Denver in the Law and Society Program, he regularly gives instruction on cannabis and hemp-related legal and policy topics. Bob also teaches government regulations, public policy and research-based policy courses.
In 2016, Bob was selected as a member of the Boulder Colorado inaugural Marijuana Policy Advisory Committee and asked to serve on the Colorado Department of Agriculture’s Industrial Hemp Advisory Committee. Bob has helped draft over 30 bills for the Colorado General Assembly, including Colorado’s marijuana regulatory legislation.
In September 2015, the University College of Professional and Continuing Studies at Denver University hired Bob Hoban to develop and instruct medical marijuana and related regulatory courses for their Healthcare Leadership Graduate Program.
Other areas in which Bob Hoban has served include:
- Medical Marijuana Enforcement Division Rules Committee Member
- National Hemp Association, National Cannabis Industry Association Member
- Colorado Cannabis Chamber of Commerce Member
- Awards Committee Chairman for the First Judicial District Bar Association.
- Member of the Colorado Trail Foundation Board of Directors.
- Service as Trustee with the First Judicial District Bar Association and member of the Colorado Bar Association Board of Governors.
- Serving the needs of the disadvantaged, Bob is actively committed to devoting 10 percent or more of his annual practice to pro-bono representation
Bob’s current work includes the PTSD case that allows veterans access to medical cannabis in the state of Colorado. and the motion against the DEA’s intended memo that recently tried to include CBD and extractions from hemp to be within the Controlled Substances Act (CSA). He fights to win.
I hope you will consider your vote for Bob Hoban to the NCIA board. He will bring new blood and a high value of expertise and perspective to this incredible industry we are so fortunate to work in.
