Join our May 26th Live CLE presentation, Cannabis in Switzerland, at 11 am (PST) | 2 pm (EST). During this one-hour session, Kai-Friedrich Niermann, Daniel Haymann, and Peter Steger will discuss the legal framework of recreational and medicinal cannabis in Switzerland providing a high-level overview of the newest developments, challenges, and opportunities in Switzerland’s dynamic cannabis market.

Located in the center of Europe and without being a member of the European Union, Switzerland is home to Europe’s most progressive cannabis laws. Cannabis with a THC content of less than 1% is not considered a narcotic drug. This key regulatory measurement in itself has led to the development of one of the most active and mature CBD markets in the world.

Most recently, Switzerland passed regulations that allow for the initiation of pilot programs where adult-use cannabis can be legally produced and distributed to registered users. Making Switzerland the second country in Europe to allow for a fully legalized adult-use cannabis supply chain second only to the Netherlands. The Swiss Parliament further adopted a proposed amendment to the Narcotics Act which will facilitate wider patient access to medicinal cannabis, and provide a framework for exports.

Moreover, Friday, April 30th Switzerland came one step closer to adult-use cannabis legalization after lawmakers in the Health Commission of Switzerland’s National Council, the country’s lower legislative body, voted 13-11 in favor of a plan that would legalize cannabis access for adults, according to a Zürichsee-Zeitung report.
