They further argued that their followers use the substance by either smoking, drinking, eating or bathing for medicinal, culinary and ceremonial purposes
The Rastafarian Society of Kenya and one of their prophets, Mwenda Wambua, have moved to court seeking orders to decriminalise the use of Marijuana in their places of worship. The society claimed the Rastafari Faith
Through their lawyer Shadrack Wambui, the society sought the court to suspend Section 3 of the Narcotics Act which involves the arrest, prosecution and conviction of the members of the Rastafarian society for their spiritual and private growth and use of cannabis in their private homes or designated places of worship.
They also wanted the court to certify that their petition raises substantial questions of constitutional law, and forthwith refer the chief justice. In the court documents seen by TUKO.co.ke, they claim their Rastafari Faith required spiritual growth and cannabis was connecting them to their creator.
