Cambodia detained 8,203 drug-related suspects during the first four months this year, up 15 percent year-on-year, said an Anti-Drug Department’s report released on Thursday.
Meanwhile, a total of 1.62 tons of illicit drugs were confiscated from those suspects’ possession during the cited period, down 58 percent from the 3.87 tons in the same period last year, according to the report.
Most of the confiscated narcotics included ketamine, ecstasy, heroin, crystal methamphetamine, methamphetamine pills, cocaine, and cathinone, among others.
The Southeast Asian nation has no death sentence for illicit drug traffickers. Under its law, those found guilty of trafficking more than 80 grams of illegal drugs could be imprisoned for life. Xinhua
