Maine Schedules Inventory Tracking System Trainings for Adult Use Licensees

Maine Schedules Inventory Tracking System Trainings for Adult Use Licensees
The first workshops with Metrc, the state’s designated inventory tracking system provider, will be held on March 23rd in Bangor, March 24th in Lewiston, March 25th in Augusta, and March 26th in Portland.
Prospective licensee track-and-trace administrators must complete Metrc training and successfully complete a proficiency exam before an active license will be issued to a marijuana establishment in Maine. Administrators can register here and will need to provide their individual identification card number.
The following FAQs are posted on Metrc’s Maine program website:
Q: How much will it cost for the system?
A: There is no software to purchase or install. Metrc is a web-based application which will serve as the Marijuana Inventory Tracking System for the State of Maine. Metrc LLC charges $40 per month, per license for access to its online system. This fee includes ongoing, complimentary industry training and support. Required plant tags are $0.45 each and required package tags are $0.25 each.
Q: How does the system work?
A: Metrc is a cloud-hosted, real-time system that uses serialized tags with barcode, human-readable, and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tags attached to every plant and wholesale package. Together, the online platform and tags track cannabis products throughout their lifecycle, including cultivation, harvesting, manufacture, and sale.
Q: What if I have technical issues after the system has deployed?
A: Metrc LLC has a dedicated team of support staff who will be available to resolve any technical support issues. The support desk can be contacted via phone (1-877-566-6506) or email (support@metrc.com).
Q: Will other licensees be able to see my inventory information?
A: No. Licensees will only be able to access their own inventory information through Metrc. They will not be able see the inventory information for any other licensee via Metrc.
Q: Do I have to use Metrc? What if I want to use my own inventory control system?
A: In accordance with the Marijuana Legalization Act, you must use Metrc to track adult use marijuana and marijuana products from immature marijuana plant to the point of retail sale in the State of Maine.
Licensees may choose to purchase optional third-party software packages at their own expense. Many of these third-party software products will have the ability to input data into Metrc, although you may still need to use the Metrc web-interface for certain functions, such as product transfers. Metrc LLC will provide an Application Programming Interface (API) for vendors who wish to develop software products that will integrate with their system. Data uploads via comma-separated values (CSV) files are also supported. Each licensee is responsible for the timeliness and accuracy of all data entered or transmitted to Metrc.
Q: What POS systems will be available with Metrc?
A: Metrc LLC will provide a list of validated, third-party integrators who have the ability to integrate with the Maine-specific implementation of Metrc. A link to this list of validated software providers will be posted on this page.
Q: Do I need to purchase any additional hardware such as computers, barcode readers, or RFID readers?
A: Metrc is a completely web-hosted system. That means that all access to Metrc is done via the internet and only requires an internet connection; a HTML 5-compatible web browser; and a desktop computer, laptop, or tablet. No additional hardware is required, and there is no software to download, install, or maintain.
Barcode and/or RFID readers are optional accessories that a licensee may choose to use.
A decision to buy such additional equipment is made at the sole discretion of the individual licensee.
Q: How do I get training in Metrc?
A: During the conditional license phase of the application process, the Maine Office of Marijuana Policy (OMP) will notify licensees and Metrc LLC when training may begin. Metrc LLC will provide a training schedule on this page. Licensee track-and-trace administrators must complete Metrc training and successfully complete a proficiency exam before an active license will be issued to a marijuana establishment in Maine.
Online training will also be made available on an ongoing basis for all active licensees and their employees. While official Metrc training is strongly encouraged, Track-and-Trace administrators will also be permitted to train the employees of their respective facility.
