Marketing Director

Role Purpose/ Summary:

You will own all things marketing for dB. This means maintaining and growing awareness and equity of all dB brands.

You will be supported by an agency to execute all creative.

You will have an assistant to help you carry executions across the finish line.

You will have a legacy brand consultant to bounce ideas off of.

Ultimately, it is your job to take the goals and expectations for the company at large and translate them into high-achieving results from a marketing perspective. You will own the vision, the strategy and all project management when it comes to marketing initiatives and will report directly into the Chief Growth Officer.

Decibel is uncompromising in the process and craftsmanship needed to deliver the highest quality cannabis products and retail experiences. Decibel has three production houses operating or under development along with its wholly owned retail business, Prairie Records. The Qwest Estate in Creston, BC is a licensed and operating 26,000 square foot cultivation space which produces the widely championed, rare cultivar-focused brands Qwest and Qwest Reserve, which are sold in six provinces across Canada. Thunderchild Cultivation, an 80,000 square foot indoor cultivation facility in Battleford, SK is scheduled to be completed and licensed in 2020. The Plant, Decibel’s extraction facility, in Calgary, AB has 15,000 square feet of Health Canada licensed extraction and product development space. This production house will fuel the growth of our brands Qwest, Qwest Reserve, Blendcraft and General Admission.

Key responsibilities:

  • Maintain the growth of all dB brands by identifying integrated marketing and communications opportunities, innovative strategies and tactics, and by leading the development and implementation of your ideas to strengthen brand perception among key audiences .
  • Participate in maintaining the growth of all dB brands.
  • Manage agency partners, consultants, team members, freelancers and other suppliers; this includes contract negotiation and day-to-day relations and communications.
  • Lead the Marketing Assistant – empower them to take charge in their role and help them to understand that the work they do helps dB shine. This includes: training, mentoring, managing their workload, schedule, and deadlines, and providing insight to big picture strategy and the opportunities that marketing possesses.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of cannabis industry and competing brands – always understand where our brands fall within the market.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of cannabis consumer needs, desires and what drives them to purchase or engage with our brands.
  • Vetting and evaluating product innovation to understand if it fits within the portfolio and brand strategies.
  • Responsible for managing consumer facing go-to-market and communications strategies for new product innovations.
  • Stay informed of trends and best practices in social, email, OOH, SMS, etc. and incorporate them into the communications strategies for all brands.
  • Stay informed of national regulatory requirements and legalities, in addition to provincial nuances, when it comes to marketing in cannabis.
  • Carries out other related duties as required.

What we are looking for:

  • At least 5 – 7 years of marketing experience leading teams built on trust, creativity, and positive attitude. The key word here is lead – your passion extends beyond managing others. You strive to lift others as a true leader because you understand the cultural impact and business results that this type of support will contribute. In addition:
  • You exemplify outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
  • You have strong project management experience
  • You pay attention to detail and are incredibly organized!
  • You have direct experience managing an agency partner or have worked at an agency for several years.
  • You know how to write, deliver and manage a brief.
  • You have a deep understanding of how brands are built to drive connection and how to maintain their growth.
  • Prior experience in the cannabis industry is considered an asset
  • A Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Advertising or Communications is an asset but not required.
