Memphis Cannabis Activist Starting 4 Year Sentence for Gun & Drug Charges Found Dead In Cell

WMC Action News report….. MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – “A little swag, it’s all good with me. Come on let’s get high.” That’s classic Thorne Peters in front of 201 Poplar putting his fight against pot laws right in the face of law enforcement daring them to arrest him, which happened frequently.

“I appreciate it. Take care friends. Thorne Peters.com.” The warrior for legal marijuana was found unresponsive in his jail cell on Sunday at the Shelby County Division of Corrections near Shelby Farms.

“What do you suspect happened to Thorne. I’m not going to speculate.” Linda Harrah, Thorne Peters’ partner, told me he was in a cell by himself in minimum security. Last year he started a 4 year sentence on gun and drug charges. Peters, who called himself a, “Kingpin”, liked to act as his own attorney.

“I’ll call this the Wizard of Oz.” Linda Harrah, who espouses Peters beliefs about marijuana, told me she met him on Facebook when she lived in California. “He came to California, met me, stayed for a while got a war chest and we came back here together.”

She told me she and Peters never married because they feared they would lose their house and dogs named Doobie and Bud. She also says it looks like he may have a pauper’s burial. “He’s a prophet. His words will never be lost. He’s got a book coming out which is all about tales from jail.” The Shelby County Sheriff’s office is investigating Thorne Peters’ death.

A Shelby County spokesperson told me foul play is not suspected.
