Dear Colleagues,

Happy Holidays!  The past few months have been very exciting for the National Cannabis Bar Association—we have already seen our membership numbers grow quickly to over 130 members, covering more than 20 states. Thank you to all of the members whose support has lead to a successful half-year since our launch.  We’d like to invite you tojoin while our discounted member rates are still available — until TOMORROW December 31, 2015.

If you haven’t been keeping up with NCBA, let us tell you what we have been up to:

PUBLICATIONS
The first NCBA monthly newsletter was circulated in September.  Recent events, current legal news topics, and upcoming programming are all covered in the newsletter. If you are interested in writing brief pieces on the status of new or developing laws, we are offering publication opportunities in the monthly newsletter. We are also planning to introduce a journal for scholarly articles.  Reach out to us at publications@canbar.orgto suggest a topic you’re qualified to cover and to receive publication guidelines.

MEMBER MARKETING
The lawyer member directory is now live!  You can find the beta version of the directory on our website at www.canbar.org.  Contact us at info@canbar.org if you don’t see your name in the directory and would like to be included.

EDUCATION
This month, we hosted our first webinar, with simultaneous local roundtables, covering California’s new Medical Marijuana Regulation and Safety Act. A special thanks to Khurshid Khoja from Greenbridge Corporate Counsel for an excellent job explaining the Act. Members who purchased the webinar can still view the 30-minute webinar by contacting us at info@canbar.org for access. We have many more educational events in the works and are open to topics proposed by members.  Please reach out to us atinfo@canbar.org if you have a topic you’d like to see covered or if you’d like to host an educational event.

Mitzi Vaughn is the chair of the Continuing Legal Education committee and you can reach her at mitzi.vaughn@greenbridgelaw.com. Her co-chair, Ryan Agnew, can be reached at ryan@c2pa.net.

EVENTS
Whether we’re educating our members or mingling and networking, events are our bread and butter! Our official launch event took place on June 30, 2015 in Denver, Colorado at the offices of Vicente Sederberg. It was a successful event attended by over 200 legal professionals, industry experts, and advocates.  Members mingled and networked with their peers serving the cannabis industry. It was very satisfying to see our canna colleagues connecting at our events, and beyond.  Thank you to our sponsors Vicente Sedenberg, CannaBrand, Edible Events, and Courtroom Performance, Inc. for their generous support of this event.

Our first regional networking reception took place on September 21, 2015 in New York. Industry experts, legal professionals, and advocates spent the evening mingling and learning more about what NCBA has to offer. NCBA Co-Founder and Treasurer Amanda Conley spoke to the crowd about the amazing progress NCBA has made in establishing itself in less than three months.

Interested in hosting a regional networking event in your city? Lara DeCaro is chair of the National Events committee and you can reach her at LDeCaro@lpslaw.com.

OTHER MEMBER BENEFITS—STAY TUNED!
NCBA has more in the works!  Our Amicus Committee and the journal will be launching soon, we are planning more networking and educational events, and we’re working on building relationships with partners who can bring necessary support to your practices – from research tools to access to state cannabis regulations to insurance—our goal is to help you serve the cannabis industry. Please send us your suggestions for additional member benefits at members@canbar.org.

Please join us at NCBA by December 31, 2015 to take advantage of the new member discounts.  The work we are doing in the cannabis industry is grounding breaking and essential at this transitional time in history.

Sincerely,

Membership Committee Chair Mary Shapiro
