Philippines: BOC (Personnel of the Bureau of Customs) seizes P672,000 worth of cannabis declared as ‘prescription medicine’

Personnel of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) seized some P672,000 worth of high grade marijuana that was shipped from Canada through the Port of Clark.

In a statement, the BOC said the confiscated item was labeled as “prescription medicines” (dry goods) and arrived in the country on Sept. 26.

The BOC immediately coordinated with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) after a Customs examiner noticed a suspicious image when the parcel was subjected to X-ray.

K9 sweeping was likewise conducted on the shipment, which revealed illegal drugs.

Samples of the dried leaves were brought to the PDEA for chemical laboratory analysis, which later confirmed the presence of Tetrahydrocannabinol/ Marijuana, considered a dangerous drug under the Republic Act (R.A.) No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
