Press Release – On 420, the Cannabis Council of Canada Expands to Prepare for the Cannabis Act Review

On 420, the day celebrating global cannabis culture, the Cannabis Council of Canada (‘C3’) is expanding its roster in preparation for the forthcoming statutory review of the Cannabis Act.

“Across our organization, at the board, staff, member, and affiliate member levels, we are bolstering our capacity in the lead up to the vitally important statutory review of the Cannabis Act,” said Rick Savone (he/him), Senior Vice President of Global Government Relations at Aurora, and C3 Board Chair. “In response to the complex operational and commercial challenges facing this nascent industry, C3 is expanding its capabilities to engage with federal regulators, strengthen relationships with elected officials, and build new bridges with provincial wholesalers,” he added.

Joining as new members, are:

“Over the past year, C3 has devoted considerable effort towards building a thriving member-focused effective advocacy organization – from working with regulators, to providing leadership on sustainability, to helping elected officials appreciate the benefits of a legal cannabis industry”, said George Smitherman (he/him), President and CEO.” On 420, I am pleased to announce additions to our team that will strengthen C3’s efforts in support of a licensed, regulated and trusted cannabis industry, ” he added.

Pierre Killeen (he/him) joins C3 as our Vice-President Legislative and Regulatory Affairs.  Fluently bilingual, Pierre is a lawyer with executive level cannabis industry experience at a licensed producer and brings 25+ years of public affairs industry experience to the role.

First hired as C3’s Policy Assistant, Omar Akeileh has been promoted to Director of Sustainability, Programming and Partnerships. Omar (he/him) joined C3 as an Intern, after completing the MPP program at the Max Bell School of Public Policy within McGill University, where he and his team prepared a report for Health Canada focussed on incentivizing environmentally friendly cannabis packaging.

C3 has also engaged two interns to support organizational objectives during this critical growth period. Raissa Bedural (she/her), a design and communications specialist, will join C3 as a Digital Intern to help redesign the website to meet the needs of an ever more active association. Shane D’Costa (he/him), an experienced budtender with grassroots ties to cannabis social justice and a renewed focus on diversity, has also joined C3 as a Social Media Intern.

As the national and international representative of Canada’s licensed cannabis industry, C3 has been expanding its membership, building new opportunities for member engagement, and strengthening the community for those working in our industry. Delphic Research, has been and will continue to support C3’s efforts to recruit new members and affiliates, as well as ensuring that current members receive the full value of their membership.
