About YesIP-34

Research at America’s top universities shows that psilocybin therapy can help those suffering from depression, anxiety, and addiction. IP 34 brings this treatment to Oregon through a licensed, regulated system that supports and protects patients to get them the help they need.

In these times, depression and anxiety hurt too many
All of us know someone that is struggling with their mental health. Most survive with a daily pill, or therapy, or simply by fighting through. Some deal with problems that are more severe, where each day is a struggle. And during this pandemic, our health challenges are even more acute. There are tools that try and help, but we all know that our current pharmaceuticals and treatment options simply don’t work for enough people. University research institutions around the country have found a new treatment, psilocybin therapy, that has an excellent safety record that gets results. As a community, we have an important opportunity to expand treatment options and provide new opportunities for those suffering from depression, anxiety, and addiction here in Oregon.

Psilocybin Therapy: A New Approach
Psilocybin therapy through IP 34 is different from the current mental health system; the focus is on treatment and health that doesn’t depend on a lifetime of pills. Rigorous studies at leading medical research institutions such as Johns Hopkins, UCLA, and NYU show that psilocybin is uniquely effective in treating depression, anxiety, and addiction. It shows so much promise the FDA recently granted it a “breakthrough therapy” designation — meaning that psilocybin therapy may demonstrate substantial improvement over what’s currently available.

This promising research has prompted experts in Oregon to advance IP 34 for the November ballot — IP 34 will create a licensed psilocybin therapy program so Oregonians have the best therapeutic options available.

A Researched and Regulated System
Developed with therapeutic and mental health experts, IP 34 provides therapeutic options through a framework of regulation that is informed by research and overseen by the Oregon Health Authority. Psilocybin will not be available to buy in stores or to take home; psilocybin products will not be branded or marketed to the general public; and strict regulations ensure psilocybin will only be used in licensed settings under the supervision of trained facilitators.

MM goes on to say

While the secretary of state’s office hasn’t yet verified all of the signatures, the Yes On IP34 campaign said it has independently determined that they’ve gathered enough to make the cut ahead of a July 2 submission deadline.

Last week, the state verified that the team had turned in 106,908 of the 112,020 needed signatures to make the ballot.

At a virtual press conference, the campaign revealed it has collected a new total of 164,782 signatures, and will submit the additional petitions on Monday, giving them “great confidence that Oregon’s psilocybin therapy initiative will qualify for the statewide ballot.”
