Niagara Falls, N.Y. — Another Upstate New York Indian nation is ramping up its move into the legal marijuana business.
The Seneca Nation of Indians announced plans today to open its first nation-operated marijuana shop, or dispensary, just a few blocks from its casino and other properties in downtown Niagara Falls. That shop, expected to open in early 2023, will join a marijuana cultivation facility to be located on Seneca territory in the Southern Tier.
Together, they will form a nation-owned enterprise called Nativa Cannabis offering a vertically integrated (seed to sale) venture into the marijuana business. The announcement came from Rickey Armstrong, Sr., who was sworn in today as the nation’s newly elected president.
The 2,500-square foot marijuana dispensary will be at the corner of John Daly Boulevard and Niagara Street, next to the nation’s Seneca One Stop gas station and convenience market. It will offer a full range of cannabis products to those 21 and older, and will include a drive-through window. Construction is already underway.
The Senecas did not disclose the specific location for the 90,000-square-foot cultivation building, but they did say it could be “expanded to accommodate additional future sales demands.”
