South Africa: Couple Take Government To Court Over Cannabis Laws

JOHANNESBURG – Myrtle Clark and Julian Stobbs will be taking on government at the Johannesburg magistrate court over cannabis.

They are suing seven state departments for enacting what they call unlawful anti-cannabis laws.

The couple launched the case in 2010 after they were arrested in their home for smoking and growing dagga.

After seven years of preparation, Clark says that they are confident they will win the case.

“We’re sick of looking over our shoulders. We’re sick of our hearts racing at every single roadblock, even if there’s nothing in the car.

“We’re sick of going to the back of a function to get a spliff when everybody is drinking their wine and whisky inside.”
