Marijuana company NETA settles trademark lawsuit with wood business Boise Cascade

Boise Cascade and NETA logos

A passage from Boise Cascade’s U.S. District Court complaint compares the company’s logo to the one used by NETA.

The wood company and the weed company have settled their dispute.

Boise Cascade Company and New England Treatment Access reached a settlement in a federal lawsuit, in which the lumber company had alleged that NETA was ripping off their trademarked logo.

Peter Brown, a spokesman for NETA, said in a statement, “The matter has been resolved amicably.”

The Idaho-based lumber company Boise Cascade, which has a distribution center in Westfield and an administrative office in Billerica, sued the Franklin-based marijuana company NETA in April in U.S. District Court in Boston.

Boise Cascade said NETA was infringing on the lumber company’s trademark by using a similar logo, a green tree in a circle. NETA denied wrongdoing.

NETA owns marijuana dispensaries in Northampton and Brookline.

The two sides notified the court in July that they were working on finalizing a settlement. The parties filed a joint motion in September agreeing to dismiss the case, with no costs awarded on either side.

The terms of the settlement were not included in the public documents filed in federal court.

Attorneys for both sides did not return requests for comment, and Brown would not provide any details of the settlement. On its website, NETA’s logo now generally appears in blue, not green, and not inside a circle.
