Trinidad & Tobago: Valencia man fined $80,000 for marijuana possession

A 40-year-old unemployed man from Valencia has been fined $80,000 for drug possession.

Mark Arnold Robert was charged with the offences of possession of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking and possession of cannabis.

He appeared before Master of the Court yesterday.

He pleaded guilty and was fined eighty thousand dollars ($80,000)  with four months to pay. In default, he would serve 5 years in prison.

The matter was prosecuted by the Legal Officer Sgt Cortez.

Robert was arrested in the Valencia market in a raid and search exercise conducted by officers of the Valencia CID, Special Operations Unit and K9 Unit.

The officers reportedly found 8.25 lbs of cannabis in his possession. The charges were laid by PC Mendoza of the Valencia CID.
