Stoke On Trent Live
A one-man crimewave high on magic mushrooms went on a rampage around his own town. Gareth Williamson has been jailed after his trashing spree around Biddulph, including damaging a car, a house, shop and pub.
The 38-year-old also threatened a man with an offensive weapon and attacked two police officers who were sent to arrest him. And in an incident two years earlier, Williamson was believed to be under the influence of monkey dust when he assaulted a police officer at the Royal Stoke University Hospital.
Now Williamson has been jailed for two years at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court. Prosecutor David Bennett said Williamson committed a string of offences in Biddulph on September 25 last year. Mr Bennett said the defendant’s crime spree started at 8.20pm when he damaged a Vauxhall Insignia causing £300 damage.
At 8.40pm he threatened a man with a bar. Twenty minutes later, at 9pm, Williamson went to his former address and damaged a wall light worth £8.
The court heard the defendant then entered Bargain Booze wearing no top and carrying a white pole. He smashed up the store room including breaking spirit bottles. In total, he caused £1,605 damage.
Finally, he went to The Crown and Cushion pub again with no top and wielding the pole. He entered a staff only area and kitchen. He threw a kettle on to the bar causing it to be scratched.
Mr Bennett said: “Police entered the pub and attempted to restrain the defendant. One officer was head-butted to the face and bitten to his right forearm. He arrested the defendant. The officer had reddening to his left cheek and his skin was broken on his forearm.
“The defendant continued to struggle despite being handcuffed. Another officer was bitten on her arm and was left with a bruise.”
