…….to wane amidst new research on the drug’s effects and criticism of the U.S.’s handling of the “War on Drugs.” Four states and the District of Columbia have legalized marijuana for recreational use, and 25 total states have legalized marijuana for medical use.

In November, a total of nine states will vote on marijuana legislation. Five states–including heavily populated California–will vote on legalizing recreational marijuana. In addition to California, Arizona, Maine, Massachusetts, and Nevada are weighing recreational marijuana. Three others–Florida, Arkansas, and North Dakota–will vote on legalizing marijuana for medical purposes, and Montana voters will also decide whether or not to ease restrictions on an existing medical marijuana law.
