The actions of NORML’s Workplace Drug Testing Coalition will be concentrated on four problem areas.
- The first goal is to change outdated policies of drug testing at the workplace.Though companies have a right to establish their own rules of hiring, federal law inspires employers to pre-screen job applicants.
- The second issue will be increasing job opportunities for pot users by placing greater emphasis on how beneficial this sector of the workforce is. However, some employers have already understood that the most talented workers are marijuana users. For instance, the FBI revised their hiring policy in 2014 despite the critics from Jefferson Sessions, Attorney General.
- The third area of the coalition measures will be explaining the difference between performance testing and THC testing. Performance tests show the actual impairment that is quite different from drug tests.
- The fourth issue will be paying employer’s attention to worker’s legal right of using marijuana during their non-working hours.
