Medical Marijuana Business Opportunities & How To Get Involved
States with Application Submission Opportunities by July 2017 

On November of 2016, Issue 6 passed legalizing medical marijuana. The Arkansas Department of Health, Alcoholic Beverage Control and Medical Marijuana Commission were tasked to regulate the state’s medical marijuana program. No more than 5 cultivation licenses and 32 dispensary licenses shall be awarded.

Sara Gullickson, Dispensary Permits CEO, participated in the Arkansas MMJ Public Hearing on March 31st, 2017 that resulted in the change of a lottery based application system to a merit based only system for dispensaries. Applications for licenses anticipated to be accepted in July of 2017. Learn more about the program, timeline, and how to get involved here.

Ohio legalized medical marijuana when HB 523 passed on June 8th, 2016. The 4 regulating government agencies responsible for the program are the Ohio Department of Commerce, State Board of Pharmacy, Medical Marijuana Advisory Committee and Ohio Medical Board.

Allowed Marijuana Businesses:

  • No more than 12 Level I Cultivator Licenses and no more than 12 Level II Cultivator Licenses.
  • No more than 40 Processor Licenses.
  • No more than 60 Dispensary Licenses.

States with Upcoming Licensing  Opportunities in Late 2017 – Early 2018

On April 19th, Gov. Jim Justice signed SB 386 into law legalizing the use of medical marijuana for qualifying patients. The Bureau of Public Health has been tasked to regulate the program. The law allows for up to 10 Grower permits (with up to 2 locations per permit), up to 10 Processor permits and 30 Dispensary permits. For more information click here.

Florida legalized medical marijuana in November of 2016. The program allows for Medical Marijuana Treatment Centers (MMTC) that will be allowed to acquire, cultivate, possess, process, transfer, transport, sell, distribute or dispense medical marijuana to qualifying patients. The Department of Health will regulate the state’s medical marijuana program and regulations shall be promulgated by May of 2017. On September 22, 2016 Gov. Rick Snyder signed three bills into law which expanded the states current Medical Marihuana Program that allowed for a state regulated dispensary system. The Michigan Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) continues to regulate the program. The law allows for Growers, Processors, Secures Transporters, and Provisioning Centers. Applicants must first receive approval from local municipalities (city governing body).
