The Border Troops of the State Security Service (SSS), in cooperation with the Customs Committee, have uncovered a large-scale drug smuggling attempt at the Termez Highways international checkpoint in the Surkhandarya region.
According to the SSS report, officers inspected a cargo vehicle that had entered Uzbekistan for transit, carrying a 13.5-ton shipment of brooms. The vehicle was redirected to a customs warehouse under the jurisdiction of the Termez Foreign Economic Activity Customs Post for a thorough inspection.
Upon examination, authorities found that the truck contained 22,500 household brooms packed into 180 bags. A detailed inspection revealed that 2,986 broom handles had been hollowed out and stuffed with polyethylene packages wrapped in yellow scotch tape, carefully concealed to match the color of the broom handles.
