Fighting for Urgent Action on Parliament HillCannabis Sector Financial Viability in the spotlight |
Report from CEO George Smitherman |
On February 6 and 15, C3 leadership and Licence Holder CEOs held meetings with all of the key departments that have a hand in the fate of our sector. Finance, Health, Prime Minister’s Office and ISED were distinctly alerted to our demand for urgent action to address the financial viability of the cannabis sector and to preserve the noteworthy gains of cannabis legalization in all corners of Canada. On the second visit we staged a press conference on Parliament Hill to further emphasize the ongoing risk to communities and families like those being felt in Smiths Falls and Olds and numerous other towns and cities. 5 CEOs representing LPs that are Small, Medium and Large emphasized the same conclusion, namely that the current model of taxes and fees leaves too little for the producers and processors of cannabis that have invested billions in communities across Canada. Canada-wide news distribution emphasized the combined challenges of taxes, fees and regulation that our sector faces alongside recognition of an entrenched illicit market. |
