The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Maryland. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge, supervision, and direction of the legal business of the State, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials and institutions of State Government. As Maryland’s 47th Attorney General, Anthony G. Brown, leads the Office with a key focus on equity, justice, and fairness.

The Office of the Attorney General is seeking an experienced attorney to join an existing unit in representing the Maryland Cannabis Administration (MCA). The MCA is a newly established independent State agency charged with licensing and regulating Maryland’s adult use and medical cannabis industries. The AAG selected for this position will join an existing unit previously assigned to the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission and will be primarily responsible for providing legal advice and representation to the MCA. The attorney selected for this position will handle various legal aspects of the MCA’s regulation, licensing, and oversight of the growing, processing, testing, distribution, and use of cannabis in the State and will represent the MMCC in litigation and administrative proceedings. Specific duties include: providing advice and counsel on legal issues affecting MCA policymaking, administration, and enforcement; reviewing, analyzing, and advising on agency policy and regulations, contracts and other written agreements; and representing the agency in administrative and judicial proceedings.

The ideal candidate will have at least five years of legal experience, preferably including experience representing a regulatory agency or licensing entity. The ideal candidate will be able to independently handle all phases of litigation as well as work cooperatively with colleagues. Excellent writing and communication skills required. Creative problem-solving skills are helpful. Maryland Bar required.
