former heavyweight boxer from Montenegro squared off with federal prosecutors Thursday during his latest court appearance in an alleged drug trafficking operation that led to the seizure of more than $1 billion worth of cocaine.

Goran Gogic, 44, was brought into U.S. District Court in Brooklyn wearing a tan jail outfit and sporting a gray beard to hear the judge say his case was being pushed back until Dec. 20.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Nomi Berenson said the defense recently received evidence regarding the 17 tons of cocaine found hidden in shipping containers on the MSC Gayane at the Port of Philadelphia on June 19, 2019.

The haul had an estimated street value excess of $1 billion, and was among the largest drug seizures in U.S. history, authorities have said.

More evidence involving other seizures is about to be handed over soon, Berenson said, and defense lawyer Joseph Corozzo agreed to waive speedy trial rules to delay the proceedings.
