Australia: lectricity bypass leads to $250k cannabis bust in Melbourne home

An emergency response to a downed power line at a Melbourne property has led to the discovery of nearly a quarter of a million dollars in drugs.

The cannabis “crop house” was neighbouring a property at Batesford Rd in Malvern East, where a tree fell onto electricity lines in mid-March, Victoria Police said.

The responding energy company had noticed an electricity bypass to the rental property where 90 cannabis plants were later found.

After a months-long investigation, the property was raided at about 5.30am on Thursday and $246,000 of cannabis plants were seized.
