More details have emerged about the cannabis farm blaze at house in Coventry. 999 calls were made to report plumes of smoke coming from a property on Walsgrave Road last night (August 27).
West Midlands Fire Service sent three engines to the scene and crews made the unexpected discovery when they arrived at around 11.30pm. The whole house, including the loft, was filled with cannabis plants.
It was the cannabis grow on the ground floor that had caught fire and they managed to stop the flames from spreading to the first floor. Crews remained at the scene until 1.30am today (August 28).
A police guard remains at the scene as the cannabis farm is set to be dismantled today and the plants that survived the fire will be seized. A West Midlands Police spokesperson confirmed that around 120 were found inside.
No one was in the property, so no arrests have been made but an investigation is underway to try and find those responsible for the cannabis factory.
“We were called after a cannabis farm was discovered during a fire at a property in Walsgrave Road, Coventry, at around 11.30pm yesterday (27 August),” the police spokesperson said.
“Up to 120 plants were within the premises. No-one was inside the address and our enquiries are continuing.
