2025-08-28 | Following the call by Drug Commissioner Hendrik Streeck to ban the prescription of cannabis flowers, professional associations from medicine, pharmacy, industry, and patient advocacy groups (ACM, BvCW, BPC, BDCan & VCA) have issued a joint statement opposing the proposal. They stress that flowers are more effective and better tolerated than other cannabis preparations and are indispensable, particularly for acute pain due to their rapid onset of action. A ban would push patients into illegal self-therapy and jeopardize physicians’ therapeutic authority. Instead of restrictions, the associations call for investments in standardized cannabis preparations and a clear separation of medical and recreational cannabis.
