This is what she says.. some of the comments weren’t so kind !
At the end of this year, I’ll be passing the torch and stepping away from my role as California’s Director of the Department of Cannabis Control. This chapter is closing with a full heart and deep gratitude to everyone who’s been part of this wild ride.
This work has been one of the great privileges of my life. Not because it was easy, but because it mattered. Building public trust is hard work. Doing it in real time, under scrutiny, in a complex and evolving industry, is even harder. But if you’re lucky, like me, you get to do that work with and for people who make the hard parts worth it.
I am not stepping away because the mission is complete. I am stepping away because the foundation is strong. The team at DCC is principled, capable, and relentless in its commitment to fairness, consumer protection, and public safety. The work will endure because the people behind it believe in something larger than themselves.
Now, after years of pouring myself into this role, it is time for me to honor the responsibilities that exist beyond this. Some are personal, and long overdue. Others are rooted in the same belief that brought me to this work in the first place: that service, in any form, is still worth choosing.
There will be more to come including a smooth transition as I work with the GO, and yes, all the feels and reflections. But for now, thank you, to my team, our partners, and everyone who continues to do the hard, necessary work.
Onward!
