Spanish police seized more than 11 tons of hashish in two separate operations in Málaga and Algeciras (southern Spain), conducted with the close cooperation of Morocco’s Directorate General of National Security (DGSN).
The two operations, carried out in less than one under the supervision of the special anti-drug prosecutor’s office of the national court and that of Campo de Gibraltar, dismantled a criminal organization operating between Spain and Morocco, leading to the arrest of ten people, all of whom have been placed in pre-trial detention, the Spanish police say in a statement.
The first operation, conducted on September 5, led to the interception in Málaga of a van that had arrived from the port of Tangier, carrying 1.8 tons of hashish hidden in furniture and false compartments. Four individuals were arrested. The seizure included over €14,000, four vehicles, and eight mobile phones.
On September 10, a refrigerated truck coming from Algeciras was intercepted in Málaga with 9.3 tons of hashish concealed among pallets of melons. The truck, its trailer, and two escort vehicles were seized, and six people were arrested.
The investigation was launched last July, following an information exchange between the DGSN and the Spanish National Police, which enabled the identification of this criminal organization and the preparation of interception measures, the statement concluded.
