Those over 21 in the Czech Republic can now grow up to 3 plants and own up to 100 grams of cannabis at home, or 25 grams on the street. The plant can be grown both indoors (house or greenhouse) and outdoors. After a long legalization process, which went through several phases, the legalization of adult cannabis use finally became a reality.
The Czech Republic thus joins Germany, Malta and Luxembourg, adding to the list of European countries where recreational cannabis use (and self-cultivation) is permitted.
However, according to a news story published by the Prague Daily newspaper at the beginning of the month, the cultivation of four or five plants may also be punished with a misdemeanor. The cultivation of six or more plants shall be made a criminal offence.
How they explain on the International ICBC website, for now, “the sale of cannabis products for adult use with a THC content greater than 1% will remain prohibited in the Czech Republic”.
According to the same source, despite this step forward, activists will continue to “push for the creation of cultivation associations and for regional pilot projects for the trade in cannabis for adult use, such as those already permitted in some other European jurisdictions”.
