Ciaran Crellin Ashley Stephen, 29, and Roger Jordan James, 21, were arrested at Phnom Penh International Airport in June 2025 after officials discovered 22 kilograms of dried marijuana in their luggage.
The pair, returning home to Newcastle, were allegedly attempting to take advantage of the drug’s legal status in the region.
However, their plan quickly unravelled.
Customs officers intercepted the two men and uncovered 72 packs of cannabis concealed in their suitcases.
They were subsequently detained at Prey Sar Prison in Phnom Penh – notoriously known as one of Cambodia‘s worst prisons.
