Moroccan gendarmerie forces carried out a major anti-drug operation early Friday, intercepting a large shipment of hashish and arresting three suspects believed to be involved in an international trafficking ring.
According to an official source, the operation took place in the village of Oulad Boumehdi, located in the Sidi Mohamed Akhdim commune. Authorities stopped a Ford Transit van carrying approximately 60 bales of cannabis resin (locally known as chira), with a total weight of about 2.5 metric tons. The vehicle was allegedly being prepared for transport as part of a cross-border trafficking scheme.
Three individuals suspected of organizing the smuggling attempt were arrested at the scene.
