Prescribe safely: BPC publishes guideline to avoid recourse claims for physicians

2026-04-09 | The German Association of Pharmaceutical Cannabinoid Companies (BPC) has published a new information brochure intended to support physicians in prescribing Medical Cannabis in a legally compliant manner. As the association announced on LinkedIn, the document “Information on recourse – prescribe safely, avoid risks” is aimed at both experienced prescribers and physicians considering cannabinoid therapy for the first time. The aim of the Research & Regulatory working group is to create enhanced security in everyday practice and to clearly classify the complex legal framework.
The guideline covers, among other things, the legal foundations of cannabis prescriptions as well as requirements for approval, justification, and cost-effectiveness. A particular focus is placed on documentation in order to identify and avoid typical recourse risks at an early stage. According to the BPC, the brochure provides a compact and practical orientation to make prescriptions more comprehensible for physicians. The document is available for download in the association’s specialist section for registered users with DocCheck access.
