Australia: Legalise Cannabis Party Fields Aimee Pearson In Farrer By-Election

The Legalise Cannabis Party has confirmed Aimee Pearson as its candidate for the upcoming Farrer By-election, putting forward a healthcare professional with real-world experience and a practical understanding of the issues facing regional communities.

Aimee Pearson is a qualified pharmacist who began her career after graduating from Charles Darwin University in 2012. She has worked in community pharmacy in Darwin as well as Tasmania, and now lives in Albury with her family.

Her interest in medicinal cannabis developed over time through both her professional work and personal experience. While living in Tasmania, her husband was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Medicinal cannabis became an important part of his treatment, helping him manage his condition without the use of opioids.

That experience has shaped Aimee’s perspective as both a healthcare professional and a member of a family navigating chronic illness. She sees medicinal cannabis as a legitimate treatment option that should be approached with a clear understanding of its benefits.

Now based in Albury, Aimee brings a grounded, practical approach to the campaign. She is a working professional, a mother and someone who understands the pressures facing families in regional Australia.

Her campaign has also received support on the ground, as Melbourne Party members, Xavier Menta and Marcus Ibrahim, dropped by to help distribute corflutes. These two are on a journey north to Nimbin, stopping occasionally to take the BIG JOINT out for a walk (and that is another story altogether)!

The Farrer electorate, covering a large part of south-western New South Wales, has traditionally been a safe Liberal seat. However, recent swings suggest voters are increasingly open to candidates who bring lived experience and a straightforward approach.

Aimee Pearson is positioning herself as exactly that, someone who understands responsibility and is ready to represent her community. “I’m running in the Farrer By-election because I know I’ll do a good job and I’ll look after people”, she said.

Stafford By-Election

From parts of Alderley through Chermside, Grange, Kedron and Newmarket to Stafford, Stafford-and Wavell Heights and Wilston, Legalise Cannabis Queensland (LCQ) has you covered for Cannabis Law Reform!

Current Interim LCQ Party President, Jacqueline Verne, will be standing up for cannabis in the upcoming Stafford By-election. An experienced advocate and activist, Jacqueline is not only a patient, she is also an investor in a medical cannabis start-up, a small farm, in regional southern Queensland.

With a Masters in Business and extensive experience as a human resources professional in private and public organisations, Jacqueline brings strong leadership and advocacy skills.

With lower to lower-middle classes feeling the brunt of the poor Queensland economy, and seemingly no end in sight, Jacqueline believes that legalisation of cannabis and a freeing up of the hemp industry will create economic growth in all sectors.

Providing easier access to affordable cannabis medicines for many more mental and other health issues will ensure things can only get better!

So if you really want to see actual cannabis law reform, LCQ simply asks voters to, ‘Vote 1 LCQ’, then vote for whomsoever you want to, it’s that simple!

The Stafford By-election will be held on Saturday 16 May 2026.

Announcing our Candidate for Nepean By-election

Legalise Cannabis Victoria is proud to announce Renee Thompson as our candidate in the Nepean by-election.

Renee is a marriage celebrant, event producer, community advocate, performer, DJ, creative writer, storyteller, and public speaker dedicated to bringing people together and amplifying underrepresented voices.

Until recently, Renee worked in local government as a Community Development Officer, where she translated grassroots insights into impactful policies and campaigns. She played a key role in bridging the gaps between different communities, advocating for equity, visibility, and systemic change.

Renee has been an open and proud cannabis consumer since adulthood, embracing what she sees as the plant’s genuine healing potential. She often describes CBD as her “secret weapon”, especially when it comes to managing nerves around public speaking.

As a creative, Renee believes cannabis has played a meaningful role in shaping and supporting her artistic expression. She also finds it to be a powerful tool for enhacing mood, particularly when dealing with PMS and pelvic pain.

Beyond the medical and personal use of cannabis, Renee’s environmental values align with the promise of hemp as a sustainable solution for the future.

Nepean has historically been a “safe” Liberal seat, but despite the Liberal opposition being in absolute disarray, this by-election will be dominated by conservative and far-right candidates. Many of these candidates stoke fear and division and are seeking to capitalise on the community’s disappointment and disaffection with the major parties. But they offer only false promises and fear.
