Morocco authorities seize 2.5 tons of hashish in major anti-smuggling raid in Tiznit

Moroccan judicial police in the southern city of Tiznit dismantled an international drug trafficking network Wednesday in an operation targeting smuggling activities along the country’s southern coast, authorities said.

The operation was carried out by officers from the Tiznit security district with support from Morocco’s domestic intelligence service, the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance.

According to information obtained by Hespress AR, the raid involved the search of a house in the urban area of Tiznit near the road to Aglou.

Authorities seized approximately 2.5 tons of hashish, three inflatable boats, two jet engines, two vehicles and several mobile phones.

Police also arrested three suspects between the ages of 37 and 40, all from the regions of Guelmim-Oued Noun and Souss, on suspicion of belonging to a criminal network involved in the international trafficking of narcotics from Morocco’s southern coast to Europe.

The suspects were placed in custody pending further investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, with authorities seeking to identify additional individuals linked to the operation.

The intervention is considered one of the most significant blows dealt to international drug trafficking networks in the Souss region and particularly in Tiznit in recent years, as it resulted in the arrest of suspects allegedly directly involved in the smuggling operations.

Previous anti-smuggling operations conducted by coastal guards in the Aglou area had often led to the seizure of contraband without the arrest of key suspects.
